THE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE MOON LANDING

July 20, 2019, marks the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.  Events and commemorations will be happening all during the week of July 15.  NewsOne will be offering stations lots of content to help your coverage of the moon landing.

 

PACKAGES:

 

ABC News Correspondent Maggie Rulli will be offering two feature packages on the anniversary:

 

  • NASA Recreation of Apollo 11 Mission Control: The Apollo Mission Control Center has been restored to appear as it did in that era just in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing.  Archivists shopped on Etsy and eBay to find the exact items they needed for the consoles, coffee cups, ashtrays. The coats flight controllers were wearing are hanging on the coat racks. They saved the cigarette ashes found inside the consoles and cigarettes - and got into bidding wars on eBay for the exact coffee pot that was in Mission Control during the Apollo missions.  This package is now available in NewsOneNET.

  • The Story Behind How Cameras Captured Neil Armstrong’s First Steps: The story behind how we were all able to see the video of Neil Armstrong stepping off the ladder onto the Moon’s surface is a technical achievement on its own. Neil Armstrong secretly brought back the 16mm Data Acquisition Camera that recorded the landing and his first steps on the moon from the window of the Eagle module. It wasn’t found until after his death in 2012 when his wife was cleaning out his closet.  Maggie Rulli looks at how the technology worked.  This package will be fed on Thursday,  July 18.

We are offering custom live shots from the Johnson Space Center in Houston with Correspondent Maggie Rulli at the following times:

 

  • Friday, July 19 from 12:00 noon ET through 9:30 pm ET

  • Saturday, July 20 from 6:00 am ET through 1:30 pm ET

 

PLEASE NOTE:  For those stations who may be taking a custom live shot for both midday and afternoon newscasts, please note there will be only one advancer package on Friday, July 19.
