NEWSONE NEW LIVE CHANNEL SERVICE

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
When will the changeover to TVU delivery take place?
NewsOne has delivered a dual service (both TVU and satellite) which started on January 6, 2020, and which allowed stations time to transition to the new technology. On February 28, 2020 at 12pm/et, we will terminate our satellite delivery. At that time, we will begin delivering exclusively on TVU.
How much bandwidth is required to decode a live service using the TVU transceiver?
10 Mbps bandwidth (symmetrical)
How much is the cost of the TVU Transceiver?
Under this program, TVU is offering stations a rate of $4750 (plus shipping and taxes) for the first TWO transceivers that you purchase. A third or fourth transceiver would cost $9500 (plus shipping and taxes) each. If your station hasn't yet arranged to purchase a TVU transceiver to receive our service, please send an email to newsone@tvunetworks.com or call TVU at 919-267-2048.
Is there a monthly fee for receiving NewsOne Live Channels under this new system?
For the FIRST transceiver at a station used to decode our live channels, NewsOne will provide the license for this transceiver, and there will be NO fee if you keep the use of full bandwidth under 180 hours in a month. If you exceed 180 hours in any month, your station will receive a bill from TVU for $250 for that month only.
If your station decides that they want to decode more than one Live Channel at once, how would that work?
You will need to have one transceiver for each Live Channel you want to decode at full bandwidth. If you want the ability to decode all 4 Live Channels at the same time, you would need to have 4 transceivers. NewsOne will provide one limited license for 180 hours / month receive only. No limitation on transmitting from that transceiver.
Would there be any monthly fees for additional transceivers?
For a second, third, or fourth transceiver that you may connect to this system, TVU will bill a monthly charge based on your service or usage of those transceivers. If you used a second, third, or fourth transceiver for less than 180 hours in a month, TVU would bill $87 for that month for each transceiver. If you exceed 180 hours in any month on any transceiver, your station will receive a bill from TVU for $250 for that transceiver for that month.
For example, if you had four transceivers and you kept your usage of full bandwidth encoding on each transceiver to under 180 hours for a month, you would be billed the following for that month:
Transceiver 1: NO CHARGE
Transceiver 2: $87
Transceiver 3: $87
Transceiver 4: $87
TOTAL COST FOR MONTH OF SEPTEMBER: $261
NOTE: Your station and/or station group may already have an agreement with TVU that may affect these charges. We encourage you to check before purchasing any transceivers.
How will we preview the Live Channels?
TVU and ABC will provide a web GUI (called TVU GridLink) which will allow you to preview all 4 of our Live Channels at low bandwidth. You will sign up for a logon to access GridLink, and it will contain all information for the transceivers that your station has connected to the system, along with a quad screen of our four live services and a button to access our voice alert audio. You will be able to preview the Live Channels and then choose one to decode at full bandwidth. When you are monitoring our live channels using GridLink, you will not incur usage time for that transceiver. When you select a live channel to stream at full bandwidth, that time gets added to your monthly usage.
Will NewsOne Group Live Shots still be available on Live 1 and Live 3?
In the past, we offering our generic lives on both Live 1 & 3 to allow stations to pick SD (Live 1) or HD (Live 3). In the new world, our 4 Live Channels will all be HD. So, we will put our generic live shots on Live 3 only.
My station already has a transceiver that ABC gave to us. How does this affect our service? Can we use it to access the NewsOne Live Channels?
Yes, you can. All stations with transceivers from ABC will need to register those TVU transceiver with TVU. The terms of usage for that receiver will change and will fall under the same usage rules as outline above (NO CHARGE for under 180 hours a month; $250 for any month where you exceed 180 hours).
