ABC News Election 2018 Widgets

ABC NEWS WIDGETS AVAILABLE FOR YOUR WEBSITE ON ELECTION NIGHT

The ABC News Election Night widgets that we are providing you for use on your website will be available for embedding on your website at the following times on Tuesday, November 6:

The ABC News widgets (National Map, Balance of Power, and State Results) will be “live” starting at 10:00 am ET.

The FiveThirtyEight widget (Election Predictor) will be “live” starting at 3:00 pm ET.

Please do not place these widgets on your website before these times—testing will be going on, and any numbers in the widgets WILL NOT BE ACCURATE.

STATIONS:

ABC News along with FiveThirtyEight will have several widgets available that can be used on your station’s branded websites on Election Day. These widgets will all be linked to real-time results so that users can know the state of all races at any given minute.

We are offering 4 different widgets for your use on Election Day. You can use any or all of them.

All the embed code will be responsive in width. We are providing our embeds at width 100% in order for them to be mobile-friendly.

The embed code for each widget is provided after the graphic for each widget.

NOTE: The actual embed codes for Election Day will be made available either on Friday (11/2) or Monday (11/5). We will re-send this advisory with the actual embed codes once we have them.

In addition, ABC News is also making available embed code for the ABC News broadcast coverage of Election Night from 8:00 pm ET through 2:00 am ET. The embed code for that live stream is available at the end of this advisory.

NOTE: None of the widgets will have any results from Election Day in them until polls have closed in that state.

NOTE: When ABC News projects a race, Democrats will be represented in blue on the maps and widgets. Republicans will be represented in red. Before ABC News projects a race, the color will be gray.

1. National Map

Includes up-to-date election results from around the country. Users can watch how the balance of power for the Senate and House are trending. Users will also be able to link directly to state level results on the ABC News website.

The National Map includes the following features:

Senate balance of power and map view of results
House balance of power and map view of results
Governor balance of power and map view of results
Polls closing time view for each region around the country
Link to individual state pages on ABCNews.com

2. Balance of Power Widgets (Senate/House)

These are two separate widgets that will show the Balance of Power for the US Senate and the US House. For the Senate widget, at the start of the night, before any polls have closed, the numbers shown will represent the number of current Democrats and Republican seats that are NOT up for election on Election Day. (23 Democrats and 42 Republicans) As ABC News projects Senate races, the numbers will change based on who wins each race.

For the House widget, at the start of the night, before any polls have closed, the numbers shown will be 0 (zero) for both Democrats and Republicans. As ABC News projects House races, the numbers will change based on who wins each race.

3. State Results Page Widget

This widget will show up-to-date results for an individual state, including raw vote numbers as they come in, and some exit poll information IF THE INDIVIDUAL STATE HAS AN EXIT POLL ON ELECTION DAY. If there is an exit poll for that individual state, it will show up as a link in the widget. If there is NOT an exit poll in that state, there will be no link. Stations may use the exit poll information that they get through this link on their air or digital platforms.

This results widget includes Senate, House, and Governor level races if such races exist for each state.

NOTE: Stations may only embed 1 (one) state widget on their website. You can embed any state widget, but you can only embed 1 state widget.

NOTE: In order to have the embed code work for your state, you will need to change the code in two places to reflect your state’s code. We have duplicated the code below to highlight (in yellow) the two places where you need to change the state code. In the example below, this code would put the New York state (“NY”) widget on your website. If you wanted to put the state code for California on your website, you would need to change the “NY” to “CA.”

4. FiveThirtyEight Election Predictor

New for this year, ABC News will incorporate real-time predictions from 538 to give users a sense of how the night will turn out. We will have a prediction product for Senate and House.

This coverage will be the same as the coverage that airs on the ABC TV Network from 8:00 pm ET to 11:00 pm ET and 8:00 pm PT to 11:00 pm PT. For clarity, this means that this embed code will provide 6 consecutive hours of ABC News Election Night programming from 8:00 pm ET through 2:00 am ET.
